Last night's stars, last night's wind

West of painted attic, east of hall

Though we had not phoenix's wings

Our hearts were connected all in all

We played the game of hidden hooks

The wine was warm as red candles

Too sad the drum reminded me books

At work. I felt like weeds that tumbled

昨夜星辰昨夜风，画楼西畔桂堂东。

身无彩凤双飞翼，心有灵犀一点通。

隔座送钩春酒暖，分曹射覆蜡灯红。

嗟余听鼓应官去，走马兰台类转蓬。

注：送钩：也称藏钩，行酒时的一种游戏。参加者分为两队，一方把钩藏到手里，另一方应立即猜出，不中者则罚酒；射：猜，射覆：行酒时的游戏。在覆盖的器具下放置物件，让人猜测。与送钩，藏钩类似。应官：上班应差；兰台：指秘书省，此时诗人在此任职。秘书省，掌管图书秘籍。因此英文用书代替。转蓬：飘荡不定的蓬草，也有人写断蓬，折断（tumbled）的蓬草.
