       We have rains here, too. Thunderstorms in spring and summer often come with intensity great enough to cause flash-flooding. Every child raised in the West knows about these dangers. At least that’s what I used to think. I’m not so sure anymore.In second grade they showed us a terrifying film abut flash-flooding. A man parked his 57 Chevyon a little bridge overlooking a picturesque, aridgully and took out his camera. It was starting to rain, but he really wanted to get that picture. The image of a sudden wall of dark water carrying the man and his car away in an instant is still imprintedon my mind. They used this kind of scare tactic when I was growing up. I wonder what they use today.

      科罗拉多州也下雨。春夏两季的雷暴雨强度足以引发山洪。在西部长大的孩子们都知道这有多危险。至少我以前是这么认为的。现在就不敢说了。在我上二年级时，他们给我们看了一部可怕的电影，讲的是山洪暴发。一个男人把他的57型汽车停在一座小桥上，桥下是美丽、干涸的峡谷，他拿出相机想拍照。之后下起雨来，但他实在想把这里的景色拍下来。突然，浑浊的雨水像一道水墙一样袭来，瞬间将那人和他的车卷走了，这幅画面仍印刻在我的脑海中。我小的时候，他们就是用这种方法吓唬人的。现在用的是什么方法，就不得而知了。

《萧何远虑》

       沛公至咸阳，诸将皆争走金帛财物之府分之，何独先入收秦丞相御史（1）律令图书藏之。沛公为汉王，以何为丞相。项王与诸侯屠烧咸阳而去。汉王所以具知天下厄塞，户口多少，强弱之处，民所疾苦者，以何具得秦图书也。何进言韩信，汉王以信为大将军。

译文：

       刘邦率兵攻占咸阳，手下的将领争先恐后到府库把金银布帛等财物搜刮，唯独萧何抢先去搜集秦朝丞相御史的法律条文等文档，并收藏起来。刘邦被封为汉王，请萧何担任丞相。项王带着诸侯烧了咸阳后离开了。汉王之所以能清楚地了解天下的险关要塞、户口的数量、地方的好坏和民间疾苦，是因为萧何得到了秦朝的所有文书档案。后来，萧何向汉王推荐韩信，汉王就让韩信担任大将军。
