在今天的发布会上，新闻发言人介绍新型冠状病毒感染的肺炎统一称谓为“新型冠状病毒肺炎”，简称“新冠肺炎”，英文名为“Novel coronavirus pneumonia”，简称为“NCP”。

NCP chosen as temporary name for virus

China’s National Health Commission has given the virus a temporary official name – novel coronavirus pneumonia, or NCP.

The commission announced the new name at a press conference on Saturday and said it should be adopted by China’s government departments and organizations in China until a permanent name for the infection has been determined.

The naming of a new virus is decided by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses. A name has been submitted to scientific journals and the committee hopes to announce it within days, the BBC reported.

这组词均含有「新的」意思。 

1. 基本意思说明

new指时间上的「新」和old相对。指刚制作及没有用过的东西，或过去从未被人所知或经历过的事情。用法十分广泛。比如：This is a new machine.  这是一台新机器。

Fresh 指外观、质量、活力、精力等没有因时间或因使用而失去「新」这一特征。指人则可表示新来或新到的，还可表示精力充沛、气色好或充满青春活力等。指思想或方法时表示具有独创性。指食品时表示新近製作的。指蔬菜和水果时表示是未经烟熏冷藏及罐装等加工的。比如：There was a fresh fall of snow during the night.夜间又下了一场雪。

Modern 指属于现代或具有现代特点。比如：He is making a special study of modern French literature.他专攻现代法国文学。

Novel 指种类上的「新颖、新奇」与 common， familiar相对。指事物不仅新而且奇特或新奇，强调创见性和发明性。有时含有某种不切实际或难以信任的意思。比如：That’s a very novel idea.   这是个十分新奇的想法。

Up-to-date 指与最近的发展并进，与现代生活同步等，但并不一定指因式样新颖而时髦。比如：The store sells up-to-date records.这家商店出售最新唱片。

2. 错误发生情况及修正练习

仔细看看下列的句子，哪里出了错？又该如何修正？

3. 错误修正及解释

正确的句子如下：

例：Is this car new or second-hand?  (这辆车子是新的还是二手货? )

解说：Up-to-date是指与现代生活同步，而非这裡所指的「新」。东西的新旧应以new 强调，车子为从来没用过的「新」东西。

例：She has bought some fresh vegetables.  (她采购了些新鲜蔬菜。)

解说：蔬菜的新是指其新鲜而非新旧，因之必须用 fresh 指称蔬菜及水果的新鲜状态。

例：The kitchen has modern appliances. (厨房拥有现代化的设备。)

解说：现代化应用modern以表现属于现代或具有现代特点的厨房，而fresh是强调外观的新，与时代没有关联，因此不可使用。

例：That’s a novel way to do your hair.  (你头发梳理的样式很新奇。)

解说：新奇强调创见性和发明性，modern 虽带有些许意味，但仍不足以形容发型的新奇，因而选择novel。

例：The fashion model always wore the most up-to-date clothes.(这位时装模特儿总是穿著最新式服装。）

解说： Novel clothes 代表新奇甚至怪异的服装，并非此句所谓最新款式。最新应用强调与最近的发展并进，与现代生活同步的up-to-date。
