K

Melts to form a silvery ball, which moves about very quickly on the water surface with a hissing sound, and it burns with a lilac flame.

Na

Sodium reacts with cold water in a similar way as potassium, but less vigorously. Burns with a golden yellow flame.

Ca

Sinks to the bottom. Colorless gas bubbles form at a moderate rate, and it burns with a ‘pop’ sound when being tested with a burning splint. Calcium granule gradually decreases in size and eventually disappears. A milky suspension is produced.

Mg (With Steam)

Magnesium has almost no reaction with cold water, but it reacts slowly with hot water to give magnesium oxide and hydrogen.

When having a reaction with steam, magnesium gives an intense light, and a white solid forms.

Al, Zn and Fe(with steam)

Zinc, iron and aluminum(without aluminum oxide layer) do not react with cold or hot water, but react with steam only.
