如果句子缺少主语或宾语时，一般要填入代词，根据前后语境，看空格指人还是指物，是单数还是复数。
举例如下：
2014 辽宁卷
Raise your leg and let _____ stay in the air for seconds.
答案解析：由let可知，空格处缺宾语，结合句意，此处用it 指代前面的 your leg. 答案 : it。
But Mary Moe could not find time to make her dream come true . At age 34 , ______ was just too busy — busy fighting cancer.
答案解析： 根据上文 Mary Moe could not find time to make her dream come true可知 ,空格处指的是Mary Moe , 句子中缺主语，故用she代替。 答案： she
在作主语、宾语、表语的名词或“形容词+名词”前，要填入限定词。限定词可以填写形容词性物主代词或可以做定语的不定代词等。根据语境含义，判定具体填什么词。如表示“某人的/某物的”用形容词性物主代词；表示“一些”用some；表示“另一个”用another；表示“其他的”用other等。
举例如下：
A large variety of languages exist in the world. Every language has____ own special words and expressions.
答案解析： 根据空格后的own special world and expressions可知，要用形容词性的物主代词，its 代替前面的 every language. 答案：its。
Instead , with some difficulty he passed around the stone and continued on his way . ____ man came along and did the same thing , then another came , and another.
答案解析：根据句意：又有一个人过来了并且做了同样的事...... 。Another 表示“又一、再一”。答案 : another。
What I need , as well as many _____ young people , is to be a bit more patient to them.
答案解析： 根据句意：和许多其他的年轻人一样，我需要的就是对他们更耐心一些。“other”表示“其他的”，在句中做定语，修饰 young people 。 答案：other。
根据逻辑关系，判断是否填作形式主语或形式宾语的it， 替代后面作真正主语或宾语的不定式短语，动名词短语或从句等。
举例如下：
When he reached the woman’s bedside , ____ soon became clear to him that he could do little.
答案解析： 分析句子结构可知，句子缺主语。it 作形式主语，真正主语是后面that引导的主语从句。答案：it 。
另外，由特殊句式结构来判断空格应填的词。由”it is... that... ”强调结构的形式，判断填写代词 it 。判断方法：去掉“ it is...that...”结构，句子还是一个完整的句子就是强调句型。
举例如下：
Once again she looked up at me and asked if I could give her some water. ____ was then that I noticed her lip, which suggested she had not had a drop of water all day.
答案解析： 分析句子结构可知，本句是一个强调句型。去掉 “it was...that...”是一个完整句子。答案： it 。
