One of the hottest news stories nowadays in mainland China is that the Trump Administration decides to take actions to limit the export of core micro chip technology to Chinese telecommunications company which disturbingly triggers the so-called Tarrif（这个词不太确定拼写是否完全正确。晚点修改时我会查一下有道。正式考试时我会用Trade War来替换。）War between China and the US. Here comes the issue: should we allow the free transmission of information between countries or regions? In the following, I’d like to discuss both the pro and con position and in the end to present my own opinion.
2、正方观点
Those who are in favor of information freedom believe that free and effortless flow of data and messages can contribute to the beneficial exchange of valuable knowledge, ideas and culture and hence promote the social and economical development of the whole world. Take the successful spread of ancient Chinese Tang Dynasty language, writing scripts, poems, Buddhism and culture to Japan as an example. This magnificent cultural exchange between China and Japan greatly assists Japan to enrich its indigenous culture, meanwhile preserves many priceless tradition of ancient China and forms unique style of its own. Success stories like this are endless in our human history.
3、反方观点
Despite the pros cited above, completely open and uncensored flow of information, especially sensitive and crucial ones is detrimental to the interests of the scientific institutes, business world and the academic realms. As we know, there are no free meals in the world, and every discovery and invention comes with its tremendous endeavors and price. If we just deliver the precious final findings without returns, the hardworking and honest scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and academics would feel very depressed and even end up in poverty and starve to death. On top of that, the unrestrained access of highly sensitive and essential information could result in the serious impairment of the business, industry and even national defense security. Therefore, those opponents opt for the selective availability of core scientific knowledge and technology to the outside world, which quite makes sense.
4、总结陈述
To conclude, it is obvious that there exist both benefits and drawbacks in information free flow. What we should do is to guarantee the fair and legitimate exchange of news, knowledge, beliefs and information, at the same time to ensure the protection and security of information of industrial or national significance to achieve sustainable development of the world.
