I quite approve of the view that the most important thing about being rich is that it gives an opportunity to help other people. Being wealthy means an opportunity to make a difference in the quality of others’ lives. It doesn’t make any sense to pile up money in the bank account; it’s how the rich will use their money and influence to help and inspire others that matters. Bill Gates once said, “The general idea of the rich helping the poor, I think, is important.”

Firstly, being financially rich means more than an opportunity to donate money to charitable causes; it also means doing business for a social cause. A wonderful example is the One for One campaign from TOMS. Through this campaign, when a customer purchases a pair of shoes from TOMS, the company will, in turn, gives a pair to the needy.

Secondly, being rich presents the wealthy an opportunity to reach out to those who are struggling to make breakthroughs on many barriers. The rich can do a lot to boost the prospects of employment through investments or new business ventures. As a consequence, with new businesses popping up, they automatically create more job opportunities, lift up the community and contribute to the economy.

Thirdly, the very wealthy have a more obvious opportunity to exert an influence on medical and scientific issues in a positive and constructive manner, who can choose to use their resources wisely and thoughtfully for the greater good, such as funding medical tests and scientific experiments.

In summary, the rich are granted an opportunity to tackle social issues and directly empower those in need, which provides a win-win situation for everyone.
