He said to him the third time, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter felt hurt because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep. —John 21:17
Do you feel the Lord’s sting in His bones as if the most sensitive part of our life is hit? Devil never penetrates it, nor does sin or human feeling, but God’s words.
Peter felt hurt because God said to him for the third time. Peter began to realize that He loved God with his whole heart in the deepest place of his life and he also understood the will that God asked him again and again. None doubt was left in his mind, and he did not go astray. At that time, he didn’t have any impulse to express his passionate emotion of love to the Lord. He realized how much he loved the Lord, so that he filled in praise in his heart and said:” God, you know everything.” Peter began to discover how much he loved the Lord, but he didn’t say:” This thing can be proved.” He found the depth he loved God had been beyond all whatever in heaven or on earth, none can be replaced. But he always didn’t know his love to Lord until God’s words penetrated his heart. So, the question of the Lord always reveals ourselves.
Jesus Christ was so patient, open and skillful to Peter, always asking question at the right time. God leads us into a corner and pierce us with his unrelenting questions. He doesn’t do it very often like this, maybe just one, but we realize that we truly love Him, more than any oral claim.
Dear God, I pray for my life. When I was in trouble in the past, you gave me peace and blessing. I desire you can save my mind to follow God’s will, doing right things. Because I know that you will give me the road to happiness. In Jesus Christ’s name, I pray. Amen.
Do you feel the Lord's wounds?
