As the French anthem reverberated across the French capital, statues representing women in French history who had remarkable accomplishments stand out along the Seine. Among them are French film pioneer Alice Guy and Simone Veil, former president of the European Parliament. The statues were erected after creative planners for the ceremonies realized that four out of five statues in Paris represented men.
