Career development is a means by which an organization can sustain or increase its employees' productivity, while, at the same time, prepare them for changing world. Effective career development programs can reduce employee turnover and increase productivity. Research tells us that the implementation of career development programs by companies can help to lessen the high turnover rate.
Career can be more easily understood if we think of them as proceeding through stages. Most of us will go through four stages: exploration, establishment, midcareer and late career.
I guess I have made preliminary job choices in past 4 years after I graduated from my university. And I was settling down just now with varied job activities and self-exploration. I have entered the second stage called establishment stage.
There are so much task needs in this stage, such as job challenge, develop competence in a specially area, develop creativity & innovation, rotate into new area after three to five year. Also, I am faced with emotional needs, such as deal with rivalry and competition, face failures, deal with work/family conflicts, seek for support & autonomy.
I felt the pressure of work, especially I am still single at the age of thirty. I am not believe in single doctrine but I can enjoy single life. Even so I want to balance my work and life. Life is too short, I want to follow my heart in this journey and don't want to have too many regrets. It's also hard for me to deal with the multi-task.
We never know what we are going to get in life, but hope is always there for us. Career development is important, but I will choose work-life balance. Hope is in life, not work.
