读韩鹏杰中文和许渊冲英文《道德经》笔记（35）

原文：将欲歙之，必固张之；将欲弱之，必固强之；将欲废之，必固兴之；将欲夺之，必固与之，是谓微明。柔弱胜刚强。鱼不可脱于渊，国之利器不可以示人。

道常无为而无不为。侯王若能守之，万物将自化。化而欲作，吾将镇之以无名之朴。无名之朴，夫亦将无欲。不欲以静，天下将自定。

Inhale before you exhale!

Strengthen

what is to be weakened!

Raise

what is to fall!

Give

before you take!

Such is the twilight before the day.

The soft and weak may overcome the hard and strong.

Fish should not go out of deep water.

The sharpest weapon of a state

should not be shown to others.

The divine law will not interfere,

so there is nothing it cannot do.

If rulers can follow it,

everything will be done by itself.

If there is desire to do anything,

I shall control it with nameless simplicity.

When controlled by nameless simplicity,

there will be no desire.

Without desire, there will be tranquillity,

and the world will be peaceful by itself.
