“Contestant No1, The creator, the destroyer, the innovator. The creator, the destroyer, the innovator, Contestant No1.”
“……”(silence for 10 seconds)
Actually it was not me,but the contestant.I was one sitting in the auditorium of the District table topic contest. I heard the audience showing their sympathy: "What does the topic mean?"" I dont know." "Oh how poor this guy is! He may fail……”
The creator, the destroyer, the innovator . 2 years have passed, it is still the most special topic I’ve ever heard. I shouldn’t bother, it wasn’t me losing face in front of 800 people after all. By the way, I couldn’t even handle a table topic speech in regular meeting, not to mention to attend district level contest! But I just couldn’t help thinking: What could I say when receiving this topic?
The 1st idea that jump into my mind is the 3 main gods of Hinduism. Brahma is the creator. Siva is the destroyer and Vishnu protect the whole world, keep changing and innovating. Bravo!Oh…… religion topic is prohibited in Toastmasters. Let’s make a change. Here we go.
Dear friends, do you know a kind of toy named building blocks ? It is like a simpler size of Lego. When I was a little girl, I spent hours adding dozens of blocks together to build a house, then pushed it down with no doubt , and changed it into a bridge. How happy the little destroyer was!
Dear friends, have you ever experienced the kind of process? We create, then destroy, then innovate. It is so easy for a child but so hard for a grown-up.
For example, Let's talk about Toastmasters. My Toastmasters journey has been going on for 4 and a half years. At the beginning, I was so passionate. I devoted all my energy and have achieved a lot—
In communication path, I’ve completed over 50 speeches. I got the champion and the 2nd prize twice in division speech contests .
In leadership path, I have tried treasure, VPE, President and area director. And I lead Dvision PR team for 2 years, provide services to openday and conference of this city.
I’ve done well in both sides. Now I'll get the final award –Distinguished Toastmaster right away. Toastmasters International will send me a nameplate –Edie, DTM!
And then what? I must begin again. Just like Sisyphos roll a huge boulder to the top of mountain over and over. It is so hard and tiring that I was wondering: How to keep passion?Should I restart or let it go?Will I become another kind of DTM-disappearing Toastmaster?
Suddenly the topic jumped into my mind:The creator, the destroyer, the innovator. And I remembered the poor contestant's face, He was already one of the best table topic speakers of District but still couldn’t speak out. Obviously he need to destroy his past glory and practice in a innovative way.
Sunddenly I found an answer. Life is like an endless contest. No matter how good you were, you will always face challenges. There is always room for improvement. There is always new space to explore-In fact, I need to improve at different aspects- I dare not try table topic speech. I dare not express my feelings like other girls. And I am not but I wanna be an inspiring leader.
What’s past is past. It is time to begin again.
I am the creator , the destroyer. And I will be the innovator.
Wish this speech to be my brand new beginning.
This speech is for project P1L1.
