读书笔记——《The Little Prince》Chapter 5
Chapter 5
"It was in this way that I heard, on the third day, about the catastrophe of the baobabs."
The little prince
['beiəubæb]
African tree having an exceedingly thick trunk and fruit that resembles a gourd and has an edible pulp called monkey bread
Adansonia digitata, monkey-bread tree
[kə'tæstrəfi]
A catastrophe is a disaster. 【
e.g.If a wedding reception is disrupted by a fistfight between the bride and her new mother-in-law, you could call the occasion a catastrophe.
1、a sudden violent change in the earth's surface
2、an event resulting in great loss and misfortune
3、a state of extreme (usually irremediable) ruin and misfortune
原文
"For the little prince asked me abruptly- as if seized by a grave doubt-`````` "
The little prince
abruptly 【adv】
[ə'brʌptli]
quickly and without warning
e.g.If the weather changes abruptly, from bright and sunny to pouring down rain, you're going to get wet. When something happens abruptly, it is sudden and unexpected.

"I pointed out to the little prince that baobabs were not little bushes, but, on the contrary ,trees as big as castles;``````"
The Little Prince
on the contrary 【adv】

The Little Prince
sprout 【v】【n】 (这个词好喜欢,永远做一个不断吸取生活中养分的人!)
[spraʊt]
e.g.A sprout is a small growth on a plant — a little new bud. Other things can sprouttoo: kids are constantly sprouting(growing).

3【n】a newly grown bud (especially from a germinating seed)
