Punggol Beach
By Kuan Sun
After a rain
you're a sea
I read at your crest of wave
and touch your crystal-clear silk cloth
In this dry spring
the hornbills left a trail that had been reviewed
No one knows it's a river or a sea
on the other side of the mangrove swamp
After my water slide climbed up your shoulder
I just saw your sea-like mind

Punggol beach is considered a historic site. The unique placement of the boulders along the soft sands of the beach makes it a beautiful and artful place. This was the site of the Sook Ching Massacre in 1942 that is impossible to ignore – there is a on-site heritage marker detailing the tragic event – still, this stretch of beach in Northern Singapore is a gem. -TR.
