《欲望之海》
孩子，你是多么幸福啊，一上午都坐在尘土里，玩着折下来的小树枝。
我笑着看你玩那一小段折下来的枯树枝。
我忙着算帐，一小时一小时地累加数字。
也许你瞥了我一眼，然后想：“多么愚蠢的游戏啊，看把你的早晨都给毁了！”
孩子，我已经忘记了专注于树枝和泥饼的艺术了。
我寻找贵重的玩具，收集成堆的金银。
无论找到什么，你都可以打造你的快乐游戏，而我，却把时间和精力浪费在那些我永远得不到的东西上。
在我脆弱的独木舟上，我挣扎着要横渡欲望之海，却忘记自己也是在玩儿一场游戏。

PLAYTHINGS
Child, how happy you are sitting in the dust, playing with a broken twig all the morning.
I smile at your play with that little bit of a broken twig.
I am busy with my accounts, adding up figures by the hour.
Perhaps you glance at me and think, “What a stupid game to spoil your morning with! ”
Child, I have forgotten the art of being absorbed in sticks and mud-pies.
I seek out costly playthings, and gather lumps of gold and silver.
With whatever you find you create your glad games, I spent both my time and my strength over things I never can obtain.
In my frail canoe I struggle to cross the sea of desire, and forget that I too am playing a game.
