Some people believe that women should play an equal role as men in a country’s police force or military force, while others think women are not suitable for these kinds of jobs.

When it comes to jobs in the police or military force, some hold that male and female roles should be treated equally; however, others assume that women are unsuited to these occupations.

From my perspective, I strongly incline to the viewpoint that since women are competent and effective in performing duties as their male colleagues in other careers, the police or military service is certainly appropriate for them. Actually, women have served in the police or military force in greater numbers and more  diverse roles than before.

To begin with, in general, well-trained women in the police or military force are less likely to use excessive force; they are specifically better skilled at addressing violence against women and children. Furthermore,  it is commonly observed that victims of gender-based violence are more open to confiding in policewomen and trusting their investigative skills because they regard policewomen as more neutral, sympathetic and nonjudgmental in their handling of victims.

Normally, an adequate number of women should be recruited to in the police or military force to deal with clerical work and logistical engagements such as cooks, laundresses, nurses and seamstresses and so forth. In addition, in those regions full of contradictions and conflicts, female officers or soldiers perform invaluable functions and capacities in military operations, especially those affecting female civilians. In male-dominated professions, although serving in the police or military force is  physically demanding and emotionally exhausting, women’s participation is an operational imperative for a mission as it provides a holistic approach to military actions.

All in all, since women are trained in the same manner as men and are capable of accomplishing the same mission, they are supposed to play an identical part as their male counterparts in the police force or military force.
