prodigy ['prɒdɪdʒɪ]：神童
playwright：剧作家，编剧（novelist 小说家）
blanket statement：含糊的说法，笼统的说法
flophouse：监狱，廉价的低级住所或旅馆
at stake：在紧要关头，处于危险之中的

就因为那里挤满了（各地的）人，说着五种不同的语言。
他们能交流的唯一媒介便是爵士乐。
他完全掌控了这首曲子，他在自己的轨迹上。
这些人都在作曲编排。
看那个小号手，他有自己的思路。

hijack['haɪdʒæk]：劫持，敲诈（剧中意为完全在掌控之中）
compose and rearrange：作曲与重新编排
trumpet：小号（长号：trombone，大号：tuba，圆号：horn，短号：cornet）

这是冲突与融合的过程。
它正在一点一点地消亡。
人们却说：让它去吧，它已经过了黄金时期。
我之前好像还说过它的坏话来着。

on the vine：在葡萄藤上
negative：否定的，消极的（positive：积极的，肯定的）
