Michael Crichton has a talent of transferring tedious factual evidences into a gripping story to convey a modern day message. In his novel “Airframe” the issue of flight safety is discussed. Although the story is set in the 1990s and the regulations of plane check-ups are stricter now, plane safety still cannot be guaranteed. Professionals can not focus on insuring the safety of their customers because airframe manufacturers and airlines are often involved in conflict-battles.
The story also shed light on the relative inaccuracy and unreliability of TV news reports. These reports are usually subjective as opposed to factual. They immensely reflect on the personal interpretations of news reporters and journalists. The goal of TV representatives is to arouse intense emotions in audiences. To achieve their goal they sometimes go to an extreme extent to twist the true colours of the facts. Most of the times what is shown on TV is largely dependent on what we as audience is interested in. We understand that TVs are designed to entertain, but since when did news programs become a form of visual titillation solely designed to please their audiences in the detriment of truth and rational thinking?
