They were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking on ahead of them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were fearful. And again, He took the twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to Him…----Mark10:32
At the beginning, they thought they knew Christ Jesus, so they sold all and threw themselves into the labor of love, but now they were not so confident. Jesus walked ahead, looking so strange. “Jesus went on ahead, and the disciples were astonished.”
Another part of Jesus made his disciples sad, so that their whole spiritual life seemed breathless. This super strange one, face such as hard stone, steady pace, made his disciples shock. He was no longer a counsellor, for they knew nothing of his thoughts, but astonishment. At first the disciples thought they knew him well, but now they dared not be so confident. They began to understand that there was a distance between Jesus and them. They didn’t make out with him anymore. He walked in front of them, but he didn’t turn around. The disciples didn’t know where he was going to; the destination seemed extremely remote.
Jesus Christ wanted to find out all sins and sorrows of man, which made him seem strange. When they saw this side of him, they didn’t know him. For his unique life, the disciples couldn’t recognize, so they didn’t know how to follow Jesus. A strange leader walking in front of the disciples, they couldn’t keep pace with him.
To live the life of a disciple, this astonishing discipline is indispensable. But there is a danger that we want to go back to our own fire to burn our own zeal. When the darkness of wonder overtakes you, endure it until it passes. Because after coming out of this experience, following Jesus will be unspeakable joy.
Isaiah 50:10 Who is among you that fear the Lord, that obeys the voice of his servant, that walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.
Isaiah 50:11 Behold, all you who kindle a fire, who encircle yourselves with firebrands, walk in the light of your fire, and among the brands you have set ablaze. This you will have from my hand: You will lie down in torment.
God, thinking about the future, how restless my heart is. Fortunately, I am not always so, so I praise you. I wish I don’t have to hold on anything but you. Do not let my enthusiasm wane or slacken.
