Despite being immensely popular and extremely important, education is grossly overrated in some individuals’ minds. They assume that a lot of things taught at school are time-wasting. Nevertheless, others believe that what they learn at school will always come in handy sometime in the future. From my perspective, I strongly incline to the latter view.
Admittedly, academic learning is usually in the spotlight at school, so in order to pass tests, children have to pour time and energy into memorizing a huge amount of information which will never be used in reality. In a sense, reciting useless facts is a waste of time. Furthermore, even though students are capable of dealing with examinations at school, they are not well educated to solve practical problems. Actually, it's no exaggeration to say that today’s archaic model of education trains kids for a world that no longer exists.
However, I quite disapprove of the view above. In my opinion, everything learned at school is of great value. For one thing, school education not only exposes children to a wide range of updated educational resources but also invests children with abilities of cooperation and competition, which is essential for them to be well-rounded human beings. For another, since teaching at school is facilitated by well-trained teachers with effective teaching strategies, children may learn more than academic skills and they may be equipped with soft skills such as how to deal with conflicts with others in a positive and constructive manner. Therefore, everything studied at school will be used at times.
In conclusion, school education boosts children’s prospects of integrating into the society. Although many things studied at school are seemingly not useful for the time being, there's no denying that they are valuable for children’s physical and psychological development in the long run.
