Finally, a glittering whiteness met their eyes.
It dazzled against the yellow, sun-drenched sands. It was only when they drew closer that they realised the earth was encrusted with salt.
Here. there was not a blade of grass to be seen. The combination of blazing sun and saline water underground had baked the earth spongy soft like a steamed bun.
The air was moister than before. and smelled of the sea.

The camel snorted triumphantly. Ying, who should have been excited, felt an odd sort of tranquillity instead.
