有个问题是，植物之间会交流吗？

《读者文摘》这么解释的：

We haven’t heard them gossiping, but studies show that plants can release scents that attract a predator to eat the insects that are eating them. 

我们没有听到他们的窃窃私语，但研究表明，植物可以释放出吸引捕食者的气味，以吃掉正在吃它们的昆虫。

今天想聊的词是“connection”，形容（与某人或某事的）联系。

The connection between smoking and heart disease is well known.

吸烟和心脏病之间的联系已为人们所熟知。

They're sisters? I knew their surname was the same, but I never made (= thought of) the connection.

她们是姐妹，是不是？我知道她们同姓，可从没想过她们是一家。

常见短语是“in connection with sth”，表示关于，与…有关。

They want to talk to you in connection with an unpaid tax bill.

他们想和你谈谈一张未付税单的事。

复数形式的connections意思是“社会关系；人际关系；可资利用的熟人”▽

也就是我们常说的“人脉；关系”。

He only got the job because of his connections!

他是因为关系才得到了这份工作！
