Shot这个词在英语中有很多意思，可以指摄影、拍照，也可以指开枪。今天我们来讲两个跟shot有关的习惯用语。
1. a long shot
Long shot可以指摄影里面的长镜头，就是长距离的全景照片，照片不是聚焦在人物或景物近景，而是包含人物和周边环境。
例如下图就是摄影里的一个long shot.
除了这个意思，long shot还有一个常用的意思，指“希望不大的事，不大可能成功的事。”
something that is not likely to succeed.
例如：
It’s a long shot, but you could try calling him at home. 你可以试试给他家打个电话，但他不大可能在。（或不大可能打通，或不大可能有人接电话）
在一些类似赛马的比赛中也会说long shot，指胜算不大的马或参赛选手。
例如：
The horse was a long shot, but we bet on him anyway. 这匹马胜算不大，但我们还是赌了它（赢）。
2. a shot in the dark
A shot in the dark就像字面意思那样，指“在黑暗中打枪”，可想而知是瞎打，盲目地打。在英语中的意思就是“瞎猜”。还有一个表示“瞎猜”的说法叫a wild guess.
来看a shot in the dark的英语释义：
an attempt to guess something when you have no information or knowledge about the subject and therefore cannot possibly know what the answer is.
例句：
It was a wild shot in the dark, but it turned out to be exactly right. 我是瞎猜的，结果居然猜对了。
