我的所爱在山腰；
想去寻她山太高，
低头无法泪沾袍。
My love was on the mountainside
I tried to find her in vain ,the mountain too high
I had to bow my head ,robe wet with tears
爱人赠我百蝶巾；
回她什么：猫头鹰。
My love gave me a butterfly towel as a gift
And I gave her an owl in return
从此翻脸不理我，
不知何故兮使我心惊。
Hence she turned her back on me
Unaware of the reason ,I was scared
我的所爱在闹市；
想去寻她人拥挤，
仰头无法泪沾耳。
My love lived downtown
I tried to find her in vain as it was too crowded
I had to look up,ears wet with tears
爱人赠我双燕图；
回她什么：冰糖葫芦。
My love gave me a double-swallowed painting as a gift
And I gave her sugar-coated haws in return
从此翻脸不理我，
不知何故兮使我糊涂。
Hence she turned her back on me
Unaware of the reason ,I was confused
我的所爱在河滨；
想去寻她河水深，
歪头无法泪沾襟。
My love lived on the riverside
I tried to find her in vain as the water was too deep
I had to tilt my head,lapels wet with tears
爱人赠我金表索；
回她什么：发汗药。
My love gave me a gold watch chain as a gift
And I gave her some sweating drug in return
从此翻脸不理我，
不知何故兮使我神经衰弱。
Hence she turned her back on me
Unaware of the reason,I was unstrung
我的所爱在豪室；
想去寻她兮没有汽车，
摇头无法泪如麻。
My love was from a wealthy family
I tried to find her in vain without a car
I had to shake my head tearfully
爱人赠我玫瑰花；
回她什么：赤练蛇。
My love presented me with roses
And I gave her a crimson snake in return
从此翻脸不理我，
不知何故兮——由她去罢。
Hence she turned her back on me
Unaware of the reason — let her do as she pleased
