The Korean peninsula was divided after World War Two and communist（共产党的） North Korea separated from South Korea. The U.S. has supported South Korea since then and tensions have been high（对抗突出） with North Korea, which it long considered an enemy. But in January, the North began speaking with South Korea and attended the Winter Olympics in South Korea.
North Korea offered to talk with the U.S., and President Trump accepted. North Korea then ordered a halt（停止） to nuclear and missile tests. The meeting between Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong-un happened in June.
