收到一封私信，说自己在表达数据时总是词穷，总是爱写the number is..., the amount is...。语法上是没错啦，但是通篇都是is，阅卷老师的心理阴影面积堪比世界版图辣末大……
经济学人基本每周都会出一篇只有短短一段的图表解读。短短一段话，却能让我们get到很多好词好句，无bug替换你的万能be。
今天选的这段来自最新一期经济学人的图表解读，很短，一句一句来瞅瞅。
Migrants from low- and middle-income countries sent home $466bn in 2017, an increase of 8.5% on the year before. That followed two consecutive years of decline.
去年，经过连续两年的下滑后，来自种地收入国家的移民向母国的汇款再次回升，达4660亿美元，较2016年增长8.5%。
可积累的套路
经过……之后，除了用after，还可以是following..., 或另起一句That followed ...
向母国的汇款达多少金额，忘掉你脑海中的remittance is ...句型，将“汇款”一词弱化形象化处理，转为“向母国输送多少款项”：send home ...
较……增长…%，注意同位语的使用，an increase of ...%，当然也可以写 up ...%
Remittance inflows increased in all regions last year; the same is expected in 2018, albeit at a slower pace.
去年世界所有地区接受汇款的数额都出现增长，预计2018年仍将如此，只不过增速会变慢。
可积累的套路
第一句，注意中英文的名词与动词偏好。英文好名词，而中文好动词，故“接受”一词在英文中用inflows表达。同时中文喜欢用一点范畴词，保证句子通顺可读，故增加了“的数额”，但反过来，并不是所有“的数额”翻译成英文时，都要加上the amount，比如此处，remittance inflows本身就包含了amount金额数额的概念，再加amount就很累赘了呢。
albeit尽管，虽然，表示小小的转折，这个词蛮好用的，比如眼下毕业季，大家找工作如果不是太理想，但是迫于生计还是会不情愿地、有些犹豫地接受这个offer，我们就可以用albeit造句：
I accepted the job, albeit with some hesitation./albeit reluctantly. 尽管有些犹豫/尽管有些不情愿，我还是接受了那份工作。
The rebound has been driven partly by faster global growth, and partly by better employment prospects for migrants in oil-exporting economies.
这次的反弹一定程度上是因为全球经济增长加速，另一个原因是移民在石油出口国就业前景的改善。
可积累的套路
partly... partly...是个蛮好用的写作翻译句式。此处将be driven by“由……推动”的概念转化为因果：一定程度是因为……，另一部分是由于……。
类似这样的表示“部分因为……”的表达还有：
partly because (of)… ：Some people are unwilling to attend the classes partly because of the cost involved. 有些人不愿来上课，部份原因是所需的费用问题。
due/thanks in part/partly to sth：Her success was due in part to luck. 她的成功在某种程度上是由于运气好。
This week the Fed raised rates for the second time in three months—thanks partly to the vigour of the American economy, but also because of growth every-where else.本周美联储三个月来第二次加息，部分原因是美国经济的活力，但也多亏了全球各地的增长。
be partly to do with sth：This is partly to do with the way search engines and social platforms work.
如果是不好的原因，还可以用be partly to blame …要负一定责任 ，比如：Labour abundance is partly to blame; the owners of factors of production in shorter supply—such as land in Silicon Valley or protected intellectual property—are in a better position to bargain.
Remittances are now worth more than three times the value of official development assistance, which came to $159bn last year.
如今移民汇款的数额相当于官方发展援助金额的三倍以上，去年官方发展援助金额为1590亿美元。

这里出现了两个可以替换万能be的词，一个be worth... 值多少钱，还有一个come to 共计……。
India remains the top recipient in dollar terms; inflows totalled $69bn.
以美元计算，印度仍是最大接受国，汇款流入总额为690亿美元。

上句有个come to 共计，这里马上又有了一个替换词total。还可以表示“总计共计”的词有：add up to, amount to, in total, altogether, in the aggregate。
As a share of GDP, Hyrgyzstan comes top: remittances were a staggering 35% of output in 2017.
从占GDP的比例来看，则是吉尔吉斯斯坦居首：去年移民汇款占盖过产出的比例高达35%。
可积累的套路
最大接受国top recipient在这里马上出现了替换，come top，位居首位。其他表示位居首位的表达还可以有：top the list, stand first on the list, head the list, be second to none。
a staggering ...%这样的写法一定要get，很常见的，staggering 大吃一惊的，可以直接放在数据前面，修饰这个惊人的程度，一般就翻译为“高达”。比如：
费用竟高达 1,000 万美元。The cost was a staggering 10 million.
…令人震惊的9亿美元的短长期债务。...a staggering $900 million in short- and long-term debt.
