Chapter 8 The Vermicious Knids
这一章标题翻译很有意思，蠕虫克尼德。任溶溶老先生的童书译文真的是太贴切生动了。包括后面歌谣的翻译，don't get ambitious不要痴心妄想，真是人和人的脑容量真不一样。叹气。

标准式罗尔德大爷的感叹句，我神圣的裤子，五彩的蚂蚁，爬行的猫。

亏你不知道。你要是知道，骨髓都能吓出来。marrow=bone marrow 就是骨髓的意思。但是marrow也常指蔬菜，西葫芦(美式则习惯用squash这个词)

这种蠕虫群体是报复心很强，恶毒而凶残的野兽。
正好刚学了一组辨析:venomous 常形容snake或人，也可指人有恶意，poisonous是指描述有害的动植物相关，或道德败坏，toxic常描述化学物质。

其实很多作者总爱造些词(中文也有，就是造些词组)，有些词可能比较生僻，可能一辈子都见不到用不着，所以不用纠结。阅读中挑着顺眼的记一些就挺好。像本章中的vermicious其实就是衍生的自造词，vermes压根就不存在这个星体，看书开心就好。
哈哈，国内的玄幻小说如果翻译到国外，真不知道为难死多少脑细胞。

电话挂断了，你的通话时间到了。其实就是旺卡先生单方面结束谈话内容而已。

这一段太好玩了，蠕虫外星人之所以拼字是因为它们太爱炫耀，而拼scram(快跑)不是为了踢醒，而是它们只会这个词。
show off没有连字符作为形容词短语用，＋连字符则是名词。
show-off: (disapproval, informal) If you say that someone is a show-off, you are criticizing them for trying to impress people by showing in a very obvious way what they can do or what they own. 爱卖弄的人; 爱炫耀的人
They could tell by the high hysterical note in the old lady’s voice.

当然前面还出现过一个heat-proof

这段太搞笑。克尼德它们撞大玻璃不是用的脑袋，而是buttom，于是就青肿了，如同一个一辆小汽车那么大的一个包。
最后依旧是罗尔德大爷爱写的打油诗，就不多说了。今天效率还不错，完成了一章。
