豹豹喊你一起来读纳尼亚第二章啦！

这一章内容略有些多。小露西误入到了一个新天地，碰到了一个奇怪的陌生人，经历了第一次在异世界的冒险。

But The Faun was so busy picking up its parcels that at first it did not reply. When it had finished it made her a little bow.

小露西给农牧神打招呼，可他太忙着捡东西没顾上。

be busy doing sth.也可以用be too busy to do 但是没有busy to do这种用法。

eg. I'm too busy to go to the party.

But I’ve never seen a Son of Adam or a Daughter of Eve before. I am delighted. That is to say—” and then it stopped as if it had been going to say something it had not intended but had remembered in time.

两人见面之后the Faun一再确认露西是一个girl 或者说 a Daughter of Eve这把露西糊涂坏了。因为在这片土地上农牧神没见过人类。

亚当之子，夏娃之女(a boy , a girl)因为这个故事有Bible的暗喻在里面，不用在意。

That is to say可以用i.e.表示

as if表示好像，We use as if to say how sb. or sth. looks/sounds/feels etc.

Anna sounded as if she had a cold, didn't she?

这个句子表示农牧神好像说漏了嘴，突然想起来就停住不说了。

…all that lies between the lamppost and the great castle of Cair Paravel on the eastern sea.

这片地都是纳尼亚的属地，Cair Paravel是城堡的名字。

eastern sea东海，中国南海是the South China Sea

“if only I had worked harder at geography when I was a little Faun, I should no doubt know all about those strange countries. It is too late now.”

这里又涉及到了if的一个用法，豹豹仅仅只对涉及到的用法大面说一下，因为越细究越糊涂。

这里是if对于过去事实的一种假设，When we talk about sth. that might have happened in the past, but didn't, we use if +past perfect(过去完成时)and would have +participle(过去分词)in the main clause.

In some unreal conditionals we use mixed tenses, that is, a past tense in the if -clause and would have done,or a past perfect in the if -clause or would do.

其实是if +过去完成时态，主句用would have＋过去分词，这是最基本的，有时候有变体，要么前面的if变一下，要么后面的would变一下，此句就是should do.

(感谢剑桥语法在用，真心推荐这套书，豹豹也是通过这套书才开始解决部分语法问题的。题外话)

fire在作为

1火灾的时候是可变体(加不加a均可)，

2作为生成的火(木头，煤，燃料等)＋a

3作为大概念，比如火是什么(科学领域)是不可数的。大概照着柯林斯翻过来了，英文单词太多了打着好累。

Then Mr. Tumnus stooped and took a flaming piece of wood out of the fire with a neat little pair of tongs, and lit a lamp.

tongs 小钳子，(超市面包店夹面包锅巴的那种)

tongue 是舌头，两个词不要混

They had titles like The Life and Letters of Silenus or Nymphs and Their Ways or Men, Monks, and Gamekeepers; a Study in Popular Legend or Is Man a Myth?.

这是放在Mr. Tumnus 家书架子上的几本书，主要是书名涉及到了几个神话人物。书名《西弗勒斯传记书信录》《宁芙和她们的手段》《人类，僧侣和猎场看守》《民间传说研究》《人类是神话吗？》

Silenus 古希腊森林之深，骑毛驴秃头胖老人，经常揣着酒囊，据说有预言能力。

Nymph 仙女宁芙，古希腊女神，能歌善舞，出没山林泉边和大海，本故事是在井里(well)，半夜写着有点渗人，哈哈。

关于Nymph豹豹在盖茨比(最近在看这本书，就拿这个交叉举例记忆了)中见到这样一个例子:"This is a nice restaurant here," said Mr. Wolfshiem looking at the Presbyterian nymphs on the ceiling.

And really it was a wonderful tea. There was a nice brown egg, lightly boiled, for each of them, and then sardines on toast, and then buttered toast, and then toast with honey, and then a sugar-topped cake.

茶点很丰富，有煮鸡蛋(红皮的)，各种烤面包和糖面蛋糕。主要是中文版翻译成煎蛋真的不能忍。

He told about the midnight dances and how the Nymphs who lived in the wells and the Dryads who lived in the trees came out to dance with the Fauns; about long hunting parties after the milk-white stag who could give you wishes if you caught him; about feasting and treasure-seeking with the wild Red Dwarfs in deep mines and caverns far beneath the forest floor; and then about summer when the woods were green and old Silenus on his fat donkey would come to visit them, and sometimes Bacchus himself, and then the streams would run with wine instead of water and the whole forest would give itself up to jollification for weeks on end.

这一段有点长，描写了曾经的场景。句式不难，一个是描写比较优美，另外一个我们不常见的词也不少。

dryad树精  Bacchus巴克斯(酒神)

dwarf(矮人)复数两种形式，dwarfs dwarves

mine矿， mineral water矿泉水

jollification n. 欢乐

当时午夜大伙会出来一起跳舞聚会；还会狩猎白色牡鹿，它会带来好运实现你的愿望；和红矮人们大吃大喝去寻宝；酒神出来的时候整条河都是酒，欢乐时光持续好几周。

“It’s no good now, you know,”

不能，没用，做不了等之类的意思。由It is good +n./ving演变过来

eg.It's good walking after supper.

眼泪顺着鼻子尖流下，很形象。脚尖用tiptoe即可

on earth 多用于口语，表示究竟，on the earth 表示地球上，世界上

I’m crying because I’m such a bad Faun.

so+adj. /adv.  so stupid ,so quickly

such+n.      such a (stupid) story

一定不能such +adj.

I’m in the pay of the White Witch.

in the pay of sb.固定表达:秘密为谁工作

后文出现了But what does she pay you for?她雇你干什么，正好对应，放一起。

under one's thumb 固定表达:完全在谁控制下。

eg. Don't worry about Tom, he is under my thumb.他现在听我的。

And she’ll have my tail cut off, and my horns sawn off, and my beard plucked out, and she’ll wave her wand over my beautiful cloven hoofs and turn them into horrid solid hoofs like a wretched horse’s.

have sth. done :we use this to say that we arrange for sb. else to do sth. for us

所以前面她会让人割了我的尾巴，锯了我的脚，后面则是亲自动手用魔杖怎么怎么样

The journey back was not at all like the journey to the Faun’s cave; they stole along as quickly as they could, without speaking a word, and Mr. Tumnus kept to the darkest places.
