天下皆谓我，道大似不肖；夫唯大，故似不肖，若肖，久矣其细矣。我有三宝，宝而持之；一曰慈，二曰俭，三曰不敢为天下。先慈故能勇，俭故能广，不敢为天下先，故能成器长。今舍慈且勇，舍俭且广，舍后且先，死矣。夫慈以战，则胜；以守，则固；天将救之，以慈卫之。
大家都对我说，道是巨大的，似乎不像；正因为巨大，所以看看似不像，若要看像，就需要长久地观察他的细节。我有三个秘籍，珍爱而持有，一是仁爱，二是俭朴，三是没胆量在世上争先。因为有仁爱就能勇敢，因为守俭朴就能大方，因为不争先就能成为人才和领导。现在舍去仁爱却很勇敢，舍去勤俭却很大方，舍去置后却要争先，那就必死了。有慈爱，征战则能取胜，防守则可坚固；用慈爱护佑，苍天都会拯救。

Now if we are brave without benevolence, generous without simple, be the first without stay behind, we will die definitely. if we have benevolence, we can win in attack, and hold in defense, guarded by benevolences, heaven will save us.
