Although the protection of the environment has become a matter of continuing concern, some assume that the environment can only be improved by governments and large enterprises, not by individuals. As for me, I don’t approve of this view. I believe that everyone can play a significant role to ameliorate the situation.

Admittedly, it is undeniable that governments can adopt a series of laws and regulations to improve the environment. Meanwhile, big companies can do something positive with the platforms they have been blessed with to make a difference. Nevertheless, the role of each individual in improving the environment should not be overlooked. On an individual level, the best ways for anyone to help the environment are reducing, reusing and recycling nearly everything available.

To begin with, reducing is the first and most effective way of minimizing the environmental pollution. To be specific, people can use steel cutlery rather than plastic utensils, mend clothes instead of buying new ones, purchase used goods, and consume less electricity to reduce their negative impact on the environment. Furthermore, reusing is a constructive approach to keep usable goods from going into landfills, which can also benefit the environment. For example, citizens can donate unwanted clothing and household items to charitable institutions, which can be reused by the needy.

In addition, recycling is a positive method of alleviating the damage to the environment because it extracts valuable materials from items that might otherwise be considered trash and turns them into new products. As consumers, individuals can do their utmost to shop for recycled products and sort their recyclables to contribute to improving the environment.

In brief, besides governments and large companies, everyone can make efforts by reducing, reusing and recycling to prevent the environment from deteriorating.
