夏日家中的玫瑰花
Due to the rise in the Internet technology over the past decades, what it means to be a museum and a gallery is being questioned and challenged. Since anyone can see historical relics or works of art through the Internet nowadays, some individuals assume that they do not need museums and art galleries anymore. I quite disapprove of the view above. As for me, my perspective is that museums and galleries are stillessential.
Admittedly, advances in technology have made museums more accessible than ever. For those who might struggle to attend an institution in person, museums and galleries are increasingly sharing their collections online. Virtual reality, digital guides, downloads, apps and digital trails are becoming more and more available to everyone. Those artefacts and paintings can all be accessed freely and almost instantly at the touch of a key on a computer keyboard. However, all this convenience is no substitute for a site visit and the unique experience that comes with it.
A generally acknowledged fact is that museums and galleries provide an insight into the history of humankind. While not any museum can claim to provide a complete picture, the lessons visitors can learn from past events, wonders and tragedies are priceless. Therefore, at their core, museums and galleries are educational institutions, as important to a city as schools, libraries, and other utilities. In a word, museums and galleries are just as significant to the future as the future is to them. Not only can they bring history to life, but they can also shine a light on both human's present and future – a light which can be hard to find elsewhere.
In summary, even though they exist far beyond their walls in the digital age, physical museums and galleries are still irreplaceable and indispensable in today’s world.
