大英博物馆学点英文

天寒地冻的冬天，又不想窝在家里，赶上天气还不错，就选择了逛大英博物馆。这是来伦敦第三次逛大英博物馆。每次来这都在心里感叹，世界那么大，我知道得那么少。Anyway, “怕什么真理无穷，进一寸有一寸的欢喜”。

今天看了古希腊罗马展馆和古埃及展馆。一起学点英文吧。

右下角的描述: The centaur has his opponent by the throat, while the Lapith attempts to fend him off with a fist and a knee. 

1. have by the throat: 扼住对方的喉咙，表示制服住对方。

2. fend off: 推开。

cheerfully decorated:  不是陶器被欢快地装饰，而是陶器上的装饰令人感到欢快。

immediately不仅可以表示时间上的接近，也可以表示空间上的接近。在这个句子中明显是空间上的接近。

employ:  除了常用的“雇佣”的意思，还有“使用”的意思，比较正式的说法。

"This is the upper part of a colossal seated statue, one of a pair flanking the entrance to the hypostyle hall in the king' s mortuary temple."  表示两边各一个，或者一个在一边，都可以用flank表示。

静下心去感受时，体会到文化和语言，妙不可言。 不着急，慢慢学习与品味。
