物理学家史蒂芬·霍金去世，享年76岁。
在我看来，他也许不是最伟大的物理学家，但他一定是最出名的明星物理学家。

除了die，“死亡”的英语表达有哪些？
不难发现，大多外媒报道，都用了died或者dead——
如果你想用简单的动词来表示，可以这么说——
①perish
Three hundred people perished in the earthquake.
300人在此次地震中丧生。
②succumb
Many of them succumbed to their injuries.
他们之中的许多人受伤不治而死。
③expire
The old woman expired in agony.
老妇在极度痛苦中断气。
④decease
The house will not be yours till after your mother's decease.
你母亲过世后这座房子才能归你。
⑤croak
I think the doctors were worried that I was going to croak on their watch.
我想医生们都担心我会在他们当班的时候断气。
⑥depart
to depart from life or existence
去世
⑦drown
The boat sank,drowning all the passengers.
小船沉没了，淹死了所有乘客。
⑧fall
Many men fell in battle.
许多人在战斗中战死。
⑨hang
He was found guilty and hanged later that year.

用写实的手法来形容“死亡”——
