    Singing Snowberg

    Chapter One

        Frost Forest  <6>

Not aware of my presence, in this tunnel, an illusion starts to form itself, it’s like something is growing in my place, a people, a thing, I’m not sure and need to find out.

As if the silence is a big part of my life, I start to recall every moment like this…. Utter silence, the constant humming, the clicking of the clock, soundless sunshine, swimming underwater, all come back to me just like they are new memories, I feel they soaring at the top, whispering ancient phrases.

"Do you want to see the frost forest? It is at the next stop." "Is it costs a lot?" "It used to, but now free."

The time is right as the snow just stopped. This small outdoor station is empty. Except for the tunnel heading onwards there is nothing, not even mountains, everything seems white, and sounds quiet. As we walk on, a grey arc door in the distance shows itself. He told me the frost forest is an abandoned natural park now, there were lots of people visiting, but Southpole decided to close all infrastructures several years ago. I think they did it to protect the natural environment here.

It's freezing cold here. “Why are you taking me here?" Somehow he avoided my question, "this is a quiet place, all you have to do is to walk and see." He walks across the arc door, his fingers stroke off the snow on the handrail as he walks, its transparent appearance revealed. I thought it is made of iron. Why so many things here are made of glass?

Suddenly I can’t find his figure, his words lingering by my ears, "walk and see." Look into the white forest before me, I feel cold. This is not a life harbour. As I get bored, a creature capture all my attention. It is a deer, of blue colour! When I get closer, to find she is as delicate as a piece of crystal. Closer I come, her blue fur is shining with the glitter of moonlight. Then she spots me, walks into the forest. I follow her off the road, into the forest. She walks in an elegant manner, slow but steady. She is the most magnificent creature I ever seen, so that I wonder whether this is a dream, so that I could know she has to have something to do with Rosa. As if I'm talking to Rosa, she would speak words with magic power.

"Why is she looks so lonely? But why is she looks so like us?" "Because she is not used to connection."

"Why is she this beautiful? Does loneliness needs beauty?" "Loneliness needs beauty, which is the reason to be alone."

"For her, for them, the beauty isn't defined by your perspective. In the case nature created them, nature define their beauty."

"Every creature exists, like human, lives in loneliness. It doesn't know the meaning of life but is the meaning itself."

"In this way, the loneliness is not a status, but a character of every creature, or nothing if we observe it intentionally."

"Like her, encaged here, only knew this land, won't feel alone if don't want to leave."

    "Why are we here?"

I feel weight on my shoulder, "Why are you and who here? Who are you talking to? " My reverie breaks instantly. "Oh, sorry, I was thinking about something." Now we're at the arc door, his eyes fixing on me.

"You spoke about a she." He narrowed his eyes.

“Just forget it." It seems he heard them all. He turns to the forest, for a short while he says, "shall we go?"

I take the lead to see whether my reverie is predictive. I don't care about the trees, but that blue deer. He follows me in silence, eyes on the trees beside the narrow path. About the time she appears, behind that tree. My heart is thumping like mad, tears about to burst.

"You are looking for something, you are looking for her." He said with a sigh.

A little blue dot jump out of that tree. "Look! What is it?" I run to it, but it disappeared before I can have a closer look. That dot was too small for a deer. Leaning against the trunk, my tears finally escaped. This is way too true for me.

He walked to me and squatted down, "you know? What you just saw is extremely rare. I call them Bluenised ones."

"Bluenised ones?" "I'm a biologist. Bluenised creature is a self-evolving creature, they were first found in Southpole twenty years ago."

"Do they all looked blue? I just saw a Bluenised deer." He looks shocked, then shakes his head, "no one has ever seen a Bluenised deer, if you did, you are the first one." He doesn't believe me.

Now the excitement is filling my body, I just saw a Bluenised deer! I don't care if it's in my daydream.

"All the trees in this area were bluenised." He scratches the snow off the tree trunk behind me, then I see the blue. They are like feathers but feel like hard ice.

Back to the bus, the sudden warmth calls back my slumber instantly.

Now we're in Uyuni again. Sunder is washing her feet by a little stream which originates from the mountain by the lake. Uyuni has mountains? She stands up, her feet are pale, they were hurt by the brine water. "Tell me the date." "10th March, 2094."

She points at the desolate valley where the stream leads to, there is the blue deer!

"Come with me, I have to tell you something." I have lots of questions in my head, does Sunder have the answers? She felt like a prophet to me.

That magical creature leads the way while we follow. That deer appears at this time point, how could she have evolved like this? Sunder opens her umbrella and says, "you think she evolves as the time goes in linearity? How about put this in another form: future is unforeseeable, even it’s foreseeable, however, another version of preexistence. When this applies to the evolution, here comes the question: Does she really evolve to adapt to the environment?" Somehow there are blue forest ahead of us, and the blue deer sails onto the little path that leads into the deep.

"Look at these creatures, do they really develop themselves for adaptation? Is it for the creation of harmony with the environment? It seems the unfitted always die, so natural. What about human? Have to change ourselves for the environment? A deer that walks in the forest has to adapt to the forest?" Suddenly everything seems so distant that a sensation overwhelms me like… oh it’s the wind rushing through this sparse forest, the way it flows doesn’t seem to have any obstruction, flows in this dream of void. Do dreams meaningful? If it is, why do I feel empty?

"Creatures adapt, screened, good genes survive, these are heredity in physics. Only genes survive through time? If the thought could pass over to the offsprings, then every creature has a way to change this world. These bluenised ones are trapped here, but we witnessed them, our minds have been changed."  Suddenly those winds get wilder, white snow are falling, revealing thousands shades of blue beneath. This is a fairyland! Spoiling sunshine are caught by the blue feathers covering the forest, suddenly here is a little world of crystal. That deer also stopped several feet away because we also stopped to feel the sunshine, she could never be caught. I think she is the answer, but I don’t know if she is the answer for me, I don’t deserve an answer that beautiful.
