这个地方叫“和谐”

他跑得很慢，以防到得太早，而她开得很快
因为就要迟到了。

他沿着一条高速行驶，她沿着另一条，
两车在交汇处撞上
（这个地方叫“和谐”）。
警方表示，这一事故发生的几率是
“百万分之一，”
因为两条路在那处很宽敞
而这两车的司机
硬是会完全看到对方
“除非他们两个心神不宁
径直想着都要去的特别地方……”

但警方却不料这俩个是在约会
相撞两辆车火急火燎同一个地方。
这个刚巧比警方所知却大了许多：
无论百万分之一或是十亿分之一
都是个无限可能的恰恰嘛
要不再确切些没有巧合或机遇率
事情也不可能是其他任何搞法：
他和她是定好了约会时光
他俩还对过了手表
而且这俩个准时得太不像样。

这就是全部内幕。

诗人简介： 埃内斯托·卡德纳尔（Ernesto Cardenal Martínez,  1925年1月20日-　2020年3月1日）是尼加拉瓜当代著名诗人，也是现今拉丁美洲和西班牙语文学世界最杰出的诗人。早年毕业于哥伦比亚大学，他同时还是一个天主教神父，也是一个左翼革命者，1979年桑地诺革命成功以后，他曾担任尼加拉瓜的文化部长。他是公认的拉丁美洲解放神学的主要倡导者之一。 著有《活着就是爱》、《为玛丽莲·梦露祈祷》、《向美洲印第安人致敬》、《来自尼加拉瓜的爱情》等35本诗集。2009年他获聂鲁达诗歌奖 ，获奖理由是他“更新了西方的经典传统，使该传统与当代的现实相结合，也因为他对本大陆原住民的持久关注以及他的政治担当”。卡德纳尔的诗不仅在技巧上，也在人生态度上有着巨大的创新，注入了他的社会批判思想，他是当代西班牙语诗歌中最重要和最值得传颂的诗人之一。泰晤士文学副刊曾把卡德纳尔与庞德及聂鲁达列为具有同样影响力的诗人。2012年卡德纳尔获西班牙索菲亚王后伊比利亚美洲诗歌奖。

译注：这首诗卡德纳尔于2011年4月18日曾在密西根州东兰辛的密西根州立大学拉丁美洲和加勒比研究中心亲自朗诵过，主办方未说明英译者，或者就是作者本人用英语直接写的。

THE PLACE CALLED “HARMONY”

He was traveling slowly in case he got there too early
and she was traveling fast because she was going to be late.

He was traveling along one highway and she along another
and the two cars collided at the intersection
of the two highways (the place called “Harmony”).
The police said the probability of an accident was
“a million to one,”
because the two highways were very wide at that spot
and the drivers of the two vehicles
had to have seen each other perfectly
“unless the two of them had been distracted
thinking about the place they were both heading . . .”

But the police didn’t know that he and she had made a date
and that the two cars that collided were heading for the same place.
The coincidence was greater than the police knew:
Neither one in a million nor one in a billion
but one in an infinity of probabilities
or rather there was no coincidence or probability
and what happened couldn’t have been any other way:
he and she had made a date
and they’d synchronized their watches
and they were too punctual on the date.
