Are you a great overgrown dwarf that has cut off its beard?
eg. And so I found myself back in the overgrown garden in the bright daylight.
I never had a beard, I’m a boy.
作为一把胡子,have a beard.可数
泛指胡须则不可数,a week's growth of beard
Answer me, once and for all, or I shall lose my patience. Are you human?
once and for all, phr.
“Ha!” said the Queen, speaking more to herself than to him. ...“ I have heard of such things. This may wreck all. But he is only one, and he is easily dealt with.”
hear from更常用一些,表示receive a letter from
deal with处理
This may wreck all.
“My poor child,” she said in quite a different voice,
很有意思,quite a /an +n.
quite a nice day而不能说a quite nice day这里的有声书应该是读太快口误了,把它们颠倒了。
quite 有两种意思,一less than very ,more than a litte =fairly 也就是本文用法,
The witch was quite different from what she had done beore.
I quite agree with you.
Perhaps something hot to drink?
sth.+adj.
eg. I'd like water hot .(Hot water please.)
It was something he had never tasted before, very sweet and foamy and creamy, and it warmed him right down to his toes.
It was that强调句
right down to his toes从头到脚暖和和的。
“Turkish Delight, please, your Majesty,” said Edmund.
土耳其软糖,Lokum(给喉咙的安慰)甜美之极,吃一颗要喝两杯水
Each piece was sweet and light to the very center and Edmund had never tasted anything more delicious.
his eyes were wide open, shining with joy, and in the centre of each eye, right in the very centre, in the black pupil, a little spark of wild excitement was slowly dancing.
At first Edmund tried to remember that it is rude to speak with one’s mouth full, but soon he forgot about this and thought only of trying to shovel down as much Turkish Delight as he could, ...
Ron...
"You've seen Snape? How come?" said Ron between frenzied mouthfuls of gateau.
the more he ate the more he wanted to eat,
We use the...the...(with two comparatives 比较级)to say that one thing depends on another.
eg.The sooner we leave, the sooner we will arrive.
I can’t do it now, the magic will only work once. In my own house it would be another matter.
起作用用work即可,be another matter就是另一回事了
I am sure you would like it. There are whole rooms full of Turkish Delight, and what’s more, I have no children of my own. I want a nice boy whom I could bring up as a Prince and who would be King of Narnia when I am gone.
would like 很委婉很礼貌
I have no children of my own.我没有孩子这么说,the only child in one's family独生子女
Who am I ?I'm Ernest, Ernest who is king of the world.为什么他是世界之王,因为他说他是垃圾之王-king of garbages ,而garbages is what the world made of. I am the king of the world.
I very much want to know your charming relations. You are to be the Prince and—later on—the King; that is understood. But you must have courtiers and nobles.
公爵Duke(Duchess)、
侯爵Marquis(Marchioness)、
伯爵Earl(Countess)、
子爵Viscount(Viscountess)、
男爵Baron(Baroness)
It is no good coming without them.
It is no good doing之前出现过,等同于it is no use doing /there is no point in doing
you needn’t tell them about me. It would be fun to keep it a secret between us two, wouldn’t it?
needn't do还可以说doesn't/don't need to 所以也可以说you don't need to tell them...
另外needn't 还等于 don't have to
但牢记we say 'don't need to do', but needn't do(without to)
between us two让豹豹不合时宜想起了一句诗: Eternal love between us two, Shall withstand the time apart
And she has made a magic so that it is always winter in Narnia—always winter, but it never gets to Christmas.
“Who told you all that stuff about the White Witch?” he asked.
eg. I’ve got plenty of things / stuff to do.
“Who said so?” asked Lucy.
“Everyone knows it,” said Edmund; “ask anybody you like. But it’s pretty poor sport standing here in the snow. Let’s go home.”
Harry hung back, with a vague feeling it would be unsporting to bewitch Malfoy while he was on the floor, but this was a mistake; gasping for breath, Malfoy pointed his wand at Harry's knees, choked," Tarantallegra!" and the next second Harry's legs began to jerk around out of his control in a kind of quickstep.
What a lot I shall have to summarize but it's too late ,so that's all for today.
