Singing Snowberg

Chapter Four

Backlashes <8>

Tonight I’m carrying a friend to Salix’s place, that’s Lazy. “Oh is him Lazy?” He seems to know him. “Yes he’s Lazy.” We both laughed.
I bring the player with me, suppose he’ll like what’s inside. “Can I ask you something?” He’s opening a low-cacao chocolate carefully, nodding. “How much do you earn?” He snaps a piece and thrusts into my mouth, “Ten thousands.” “Wow, that’s twice my salary.” “Runners run, they don’t run for themselves.”
I press open the player, my favourite bamboo flute melody again. “I like it. Do you?” “I need to hear more.” Hum... I like him this way. “How about tomorrow we go to the frost forest?” He nods, chewing his chocolate, “hum... do you know chocolate gives people a love sensation?” “I’m feeling it.” He feeds me another, “what do you mean?” “I mean... don’t need chocolate to feel it because I’m already in it, by the way this is a low-cocoa one.” “Don’t worry, I’ll buy you a genuine one.” “I want two.” “I’ll buy two for you.”
Saturday morning, when we’re about to go he gives me two bars of genuine chocolate. I put them into my backpack, Lazy sticks his head out from the thick rug in curiosity. “This is not for you boy, you’ll be intoxicated.”
Today is a windy day, light snow in the sky, flakes of whiteness carried by the turbulence drifting in midair. We rented two bikes, which costed us 800 Credits. I put my backpack in the basket to let Lazy catch the fresh air. Salix is an excellent bicyclist, rides with ease, though the bicycle tyres are equipped with propelling technologies, plus more slopes on the side hills, I catch my breath all the way.
“Why is he sleeping?” “Because he’s lazy, and he might catch a carsickness.”
At the plant farm, we take Lazy out. “He doesn’t feel good.” Hum... maybe he’s bored. “Lazy, look at these cube houses, aren’t they beautiful?” It works, Lazy was indeed bored with the tunnel road. His eyes can’t leave the targets, oozing with green light. Why don’t we get sick of the monotonous road? Perhaps we need to tell him the destination. Anticipation is a great thing, at least it keeps us awake longer, but not always so great.
Some parts of the route behind us are steep, however we’re heading to a plain, I’m not sure whether it’s a plateau.
When we finally got to Frost Forest station it was about 9 o’clock. Everything is hiding in the darkness. Don’t know why the heating system is not working well, and the air is dry. The station is empty, only has few lights on. We take off our clothes and leave them under the hot wind in the toilet. We’ll have to wait till morning light.
“Lazy, it’s time to explore.” This ginger boy stretches his body with a big yawn, and sets out his adventure in this toilet. He’s not a good explorer, few minutes later he’s under the hot wind and not willing to move. He must be hungry, we feed him two meatballs and he takes them lazily. Oh he’s going to enjoy the food time.
After that we sit on the wooden bench behind an insulation glass. I feel tired, and my head becomes dizzy. I lay down with my head on his thighs. To my surprise, he speaks first, “tell me about you.”
What am I going to give? Is everything appropriate to speak out? Come on Cyano, tell him about me. About you? He is you. I think you knew we’re not the same. “Salix. I have another Salix inside here.”
He got the gist, but there’re more reasons to ask, “why?” I don’t know or it’s not very clear, so I shake my head. “Tell me about him.”
From the first sight I knew he’s the right person to talk to. I spill out our stories one by one, from our first talk, to those evenings, to the sex the trip and how I accept my lies. He’s a good listener, listening still, still as not even moving a finger. His eyes are out of focus as if in the real imagination.
This is the first time I’ve ever told anyone about my fantasy, the burden was suddenly lifted when I spoke the last word. “I’m a mad person.” He takes a deep breath, “No you’re not mad. You’re a romantic boy, very much romantic.”
The first light comes up from the horizon, just like the last time, we watch in silence. The silence, the time we’re not talking, when I look at him, when he stares at the horizon. This is not awkward or uncomfortable for us, we both feel good, and I think silence could solve many things. Another way very simple but special to ease the waves in our minds, to figure out something, to know each other better. This is the moment of magic and romance.
