看一遍就能记住的十种常用表达 - 看老友记学英语 016
上一期推出的学会这七种记忆法，长难单词也可以过目不忘 - 看老友记学英语 015， 受到了很多朋友的喜欢。所以我决定以后的老友记分享会向介绍记忆技巧和表达方式的方向上下功夫。力求能够让大家在看完一篇分享以后能够学到真正的干货，每次都有进步。

本期会着重扩展和讲解十个表达方法，出现的生词也会带有记忆技巧，保证过目不忘。
1.
Phoebe:Okay, okay.If I were omnipotent for a day, I would want, um, world peace, no more hunger,good things for the rain-forest...And bigger boobs!
翻译：
如果有一天我变得无所不能，我要世界和平，不再有饥饿，雨林不再遭受破坏，还有更大的胸部。
单词记忆技巧：
Omnipotent [ɒm'nɪpət(ə)nt]:adj.无所不能的；全能的；有无限权力的。
还是利用拆词法- omn + i + potent：
omn可以联想成own,就是把w反扣成m；i用原义，我；potent有效的；强有力的,也可以联想到potential,潜能，取前边一部分。
那么连起来就可以这样记：当我拥有了无限潜能，我就无所不能. When I own potential I would be omnipotent.
句子解析：
首先这是虚拟语气，用的是过去时态。这句话我们平时也常会用，比如说别人让你许个愿望的时候就可以说：If I were omnipotent for a day, I would want all my beloved ones to be happy and healthy.

Ross:I cannot sleep in a public place. Libraries, airplanes, movie theaters.
Monica:When you were little, you slept at the "grand canyon".
翻译：
我在公共场合根本睡不着， 图书馆，飞机上，电影院里。
你很小的时候在大峡谷睡着了。
单词记忆技巧：
grand canyon美国著名的大峡谷。canyon,峡谷这个词其实非常好记，yon就是you反写u,可以想成，你在倒立。那么联系起来就是，你敢在（can you)峡谷（canyon)边上倒立吗？
句子解析：在公共场所的表达方法：in a public place.如，You are not allowed to smoke in a public place.公共场所，禁止吸烟。

Ross:It's okay,y'know, you just nodded off again.
翻译：
你又睡着了。
句子解析：
nod off,打盹,犯困。这个词可以非常好地形容我们上班犯困的时候。I used to nod
off in the afternoon.我下午经常打盹。
4.
Phoebe: My grandmother has this new boyfriend, and they're both kind of insecure in bed.Oh, and deaf. So they're constantly, like, having to reassure each other thatthey're having a good time. You have no idea how loud they are!
翻译：
我祖母交了一个新男友,他们俩在床上翻来覆去.还耳聋…于是两人不断确定彼此尽兴.你不知道他们有多吵。
单词延伸：
Insecure [ˌɪnsɪˈkjʊə(r)]：adj.不安全的；不稳定的；不牢靠的。
I am insecure about how he feels about me.我不确定他对我的感觉。
Secure:adj.安全的；无虑的；有把握的；稳当的.
Safe:adj.安全的；可靠的；平安的.
safe：主要指人或物未受危险或损害。He returned home,safe and sound.他安全无恙地回到家里。
secure：着重指由于环境等因素而使人产生的安全感，含可以不必担心或害怕的意味。The child felt secure near its parents.靠近自己的父母亲,这孩子觉得安全.
Reassure [riːə'ʃʊə]:使…安心，使消除疑虑. assure加了前缀re.
I tried to reassure her,"Don't worry about it. We won't let it happen again." 我尽力使她安心，“别担心，我们不会允许它再发生

Ross:So, I'm guessing you had an extra ticket and couldn't decide which one of you got to bring a date?
翻译：
一定是你们多了一张票，但是不能决定你们谁带一个人去。
句子解析：
extra ticket多余的票，extra 多余的，额外的。可以记下面几个固定用法：
1. I want to earn extra income.额外的。
2. I have an extra ticket. 多余的。
3. There's an extra blanket. 备用的。
Bring a date: bring a date这个date是约会对象的意思.

Chandler:Well, aren't we Mr. "The glass is half empty."
翻译：
我们不是悲观的半杯水先生。
解析：
"The glass is half empty"有这样的一种比喻：“如果有一个只装了一半水的水杯，乐观者认为‘水杯有一半是满的’，悲观者则认为‘有一半是空的’”，这就是“pessimist”（悲观主义者）和“The glass is half empty”关系的由来。
Chan说的“Mr. "The glass ishalf empty"”即是pessimist（悲观主义者）的意思；当Ross说“我猜你们是因为多出来一张票而又不能定下谁可以带女友去（bringa date），所以才叫我的”，现在爱搞笑的Chan又开始发挥他的幽默去企图否认Ross的看法，于是狡辩到：“哈哈，我们需要这么悲观吗？（潜台词是：你还可以乐观的看待这件事的另一面）”
Ross:Oh my God,oh- is today the twentieth, October twentieth?
今天正好是十月二十号啊。

Chandler:Eleven days before Halloween.. all the good costumes are gone?
单词记忆技巧：
Costume：['kɒstjuːm] n.服装，装束。costume designer服装设计师。子莯的梦想就是做一个服装设计师啊。
但是这个梦想要花费你我毕生的时间去实现。costuandme = costume.
8.
Ross:Today's the day Carol and I first.. consummated our physical relationship. (Joey is puzzled.) Sex. ..You know what, I-I'd better pass on the game. I think I'm just gonna go home and think about my ex-wife and her lesbian lover.
翻译：
今天是我第一次和卡萝…进行肉体接触…作爱。我不去看球赛了，我还是回家，想想我的前妻和她的爱人吧
单词记忆技巧：
consummated :['kɒnsjʊmeɪt; -sə-]vt.完成；作成. consummate theproject:完成这个项目。
consummate = consume(消费）mate（伙伴），当你消费完了你的伙伴，你就大功告成了。

Ross:Alright,alright, maybe it'll take my mind off it. Do you promise to buy me a big thumb finger?
翻译：好吧,或许能让我忘记伤痛，但你要帮我买个大手指。
解析：
take my mind off it = let it go,如果有人和你说失恋了，你就可以这样安慰她：Take your mind off itand make yourself better.

Phoebe:I rememberthe day I got my first pay check. There was a cave in in one of the mines, andeight people were killed.
翻译：
我记起拿到第一份薪水的那一天，矿场塌陷八人惨遭活埋。
解析：
cave in：塌落；认输。
After a ruinous strike, the union caved in.在一次造成极大破坏的罢工之后，工会妥协了。
